The Finnish Defence Forces improves efficiency by commissioning a new videoconferencing system

19 January, 2010

The Finnish Defence Forces will commission a new videoconferencing system in December. The new system is a part of the State Security Network. The Finnish Defence Forces’ videoconferencing system acquisition, consisting of 87 videoconferencing systems, is the most extensive in Finland this year.

The videoconferencing system will be in full use in December 2009, and it will improve the efficiency of IT operations and decrease the need for travelling. The new videoconferencing system is supplied to the Finnish Defence Forces by Videra Oy.

“This is the single largest acquisition and commissioning of a remote conferencing system in Finland this year. In general, remote conferencing is far more utilised in public administration than is commonly known. We are very happy to see that the extremely demanding public administration customers have strong confidence in our services,” says Sales Manager Pekka Haataja of Videra.

Videoconferencing services have been defined as one of the common key services of the on-going State Security Network project. The key factors in choosing the videoconferencing system supplier for the Finnish Defence Forces were the requirements set for the co-operation between authorities and, in particular, compatibility with the videoconferencing system and other services of the Internal Security ICT Agency (HALTIK) of the Ministry of the Interior.

The remotely operated terminals and system utilise the telecommunications network of the Finnish Defence Forces. Centralisation facilitates the management and use of the system. The tasks of the IT services of the Finnish Defence Forces include making the operations of the organisation more efficient and saving costs.

In recent years, Videra has delivered a total of over 1,100 videoconferencing systems to different public administration organisations. Remote conferencing is actively utilised by the Finnish Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Transport and Communications and Ministry of Finance. Videra’s Virtual Office solutions form well over half of the solutions delivered to the public administration operators, and the videoconferencing systems for internal network environments can mainly be found amongst national safety and security authorities.
